Description

This Steak with Cajun Shrimp Sauce recipe features perfectly seared New York Strip steaks topped with a creamy, flavorful Cajun shrimp sauce made from garlic, heavy cream, chicken broth, and Parmesan cheese. The dish combines the rich flavors of buttery shrimp seasoned with Cajun spices and a zesty sauce that complements the juicy steak, creating an indulgent and satisfying meal perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Steak

  • 1 lb New York Strip steak

Shrimp Sauce

  • 24 large shrimp, raw and deveined
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup fresh shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 3 tablespoons butter (divided)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning

Instructions

  1. Prepare and Sear the Steak: Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the New York Strip steaks until they are lightly browned on both sides and cooked to your preferred level of doneness. Once done, remove the steaks from the skillet and set aside to rest.
  2. Cook the Shrimp: Reduce the heat to medium. In a different pan, melt 1 tablespoon of butter and cook the shrimp until they turn pink on both sides, about 1-2 minutes per side. Remove the shrimp from the pan and set aside.
  3. Sauté Garlic: In the same pan used for the shrimp, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter and sauté the minced garlic for about one minute until fragrant.
  4. Create the Sauce Base: Pour in the chicken broth, add the heavy cream, Dijon mustard, and Cajun seasoning. Stir well and bring the mixture to a boil, then let it simmer for about one minute to thicken slightly.
  5. Add Cheese: Stir in the shredded Parmesan cheese until it melts fully into the sauce, creating a smooth, creamy texture.
  6. Finish the Sauce and Serve: Add the lemon juice, chopped parsley, and the cooked shrimp back into the sauce. Stir to combine all flavors. Serve this flavorful Cajun shrimp sauce poured generously over the seared steaks.

Notes

  • Ensure the steaks rest for a few minutes after cooking to retain their juices.
  • Adjust the Cajun seasoning quantity to suit your heat preference.
  • Use fresh Parmesan cheese for the best flavor and smooth melting.
  • Serve with sides like steamed vegetables or mashed potatoes for a complete meal.
  • This sauce can also pair well with chicken or pasta as an alternative.
