Slow Cooker BBQ Brisket Recipe

  • Author: Harper
  • Total Time: 8 hours 20 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

This Slow Cooker Brisket recipe delivers tender, flavorful beef brisket slow-cooked in a savory BBQ sauce infused with a smoky, spicy dry rub. Perfectly seared then simmered on low for hours, the brisket absorbs rich flavors and becomes melt-in-your-mouth delicious, ideal for a hearty family meal or special occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Brisket and Rub

  • 4 pounds Beef Brisket (trim excess fat if needed)
  • 1 tablespoon Avocado Oil
  • 1 tablespoon Brown Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Smoked Paprika
  • ½ tablespoon Chili Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper

Sauce and Garnish

  • 1 large Onion (sliced)
  • 1½ cups BBQ Sauce (I use Stubb’s Sticky Sweet BBQ sauce)
  • ½ cup Beef Broth
  • Parsley (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the BBQ Sauce Mixture: In a medium bowl, whisk together the BBQ sauce and beef broth until well combined. Set aside.
  2. Make the Dry Rub: In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, smoked paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper to create the flavorful dry rub.
  3. Season the Brisket: Pat the brisket dry thoroughly with paper towels, then massage the dry rub evenly all over the surface of the meat to ensure the spices adhere well.
  4. Sear the Brisket: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the avocado oil and sear the brisket on all sides until nicely browned, about 3-4 minutes per side. This step locks in flavor and creates a delicious crust.
  5. Prepare Slow Cooker: Transfer the seared brisket to the bottom of the slow cooker pot. Arrange the sliced onions around the meat to infuse aroma and moisture.
  6. Add Sauce to Slow Cooker: Pour the BBQ sauce and beef broth mixture evenly over the brisket and onions, ensuring the meat is well coated.
  7. Slow Cook the Brisket: Cover with the lid and cook on LOW for 8-10 hours. For a smaller brisket weighing about 2 pounds, reduce cooking time to 6-8 hours on LOW.
  8. Slice and Reheat: Once cooked, remove the brisket carefully and place it on a cutting board. Slice or shred the meat as desired, then return it to the slow cooker pot and stir it into the cooking sauce to absorb more flavor.
  9. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle fresh parsley over the brisket if desired, adding a bright herbal note. Serve warm with your favorite sides.

Notes

  • Trim excess fat from the brisket if you prefer a leaner dish, but some fat is important for flavor and moisture.
  • Searing the brisket before slow cooking is essential for developing deep, complex flavors.
  • Cooking times may vary depending on the slow cooker; check tenderness after minimum time.
  • Leftover brisket can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
  • For a spicier version, increase the cayenne pepper or add chipotle powder.
