Ingredients
Scale
For the Donut Dough:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk (warm, about 110°F or 43°C)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
For the Filling:
- 1 cup Nutella
For the Coating:
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. In another bowl, combine warm milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Pour wet ingredients into dry and mix until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Shape the Donuts: Punch down the risen dough and roll out on a floured surface to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut donuts using a donut cutter or two round cutters. Place cut donuts on a floured baking sheet. Cover and let rise another 30 minutes.
- Fry the Donuts: Heat 2 inches of oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts in batches for 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Fill with Nutella: When donuts are cool enough to handle, use a piping bag with a round tip to inject Nutella into the side of each donut, squeezing gently to fill.
- Coat the Donuts: Mix granulated sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl. Roll each filled donut in the sugar mixture to coat thoroughly.
- Serve: Serve the Nutella stuffed donuts warm and enjoy this delicious treat immediately.
Notes
- Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast.
- Knead the dough well to develop gluten for soft donuts.
- Use a candy thermometer for accurate oil temperature when frying.
- Filling the donuts while they are still slightly warm helps Nutella flow in easier.
- Store leftover donuts tightly covered to preserve freshness but best eaten the same day.
