Ingredients
Scale
Sauce
- ½ cup ketchup
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- ⅛ teaspoon white pepper
- 2 tablespoons water
Main Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons oil (divided in half)
- 1 pound shrimp (peeled, deveined)
- 2 green onions (white & light greens diced, dark greens cut into long 2 inch strands)
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- Toasted sesame seeds (optional garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, combine ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, white pepper, and water. Mix well and set aside.
- Cook the shrimp: Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large non-stick skillet or wok over medium-high heat. When hot, add the shrimp in a single layer, cooking in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding. Cook each side for 1 to 2 minutes until shrimp are firm and pink. Remove shrimp and set aside on a clean plate.
- Sauté aromatics: In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Sauté the white and light green parts of the green onions for 1 to 2 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Combine shrimp and sauce: Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet along with the dark green parts of the green onions. Pour in the prepared sauce.
- Toss and finish: Stir all ingredients together, ensuring the shrimp are thoroughly coated with the sauce. Cook for at least one more minute to heat through and meld flavors.
- Serve: Garnish with toasted sesame seeds if desired and serve hot.
Notes
- For best results, cook shrimp just until pink to avoid rubbery texture.
- If fresh green onions are unavailable, substitute with chives or scallions.
- Add a pinch of red pepper flakes if a spicy kick is desired.
- Serve over steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
- To make this recipe gluten-free, use tamari in place of soy sauce.
