Description
This classic Irish Coffee recipe combines hot brewed coffee, smooth Irish whiskey, and a touch of sweetness, topped with softly whipped cream and a hint of chocolate shavings. It’s a warm, comforting drink perfect for a cozy evening or after-dinner treat.
Ingredients
Scale
For the Coffee:
- 2 cups hot water (for warming mugs)
- 2 tablespoons sugar or maple syrup (divided)
- 2 cups brewed coffee
- 2 oz Irish whiskey
For the Cream:
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional, for cream)
Garnish:
- Chocolate shavings (for garnish)
Instructions
- Beat the Cream: In a chilled mixing bowl, add the heavy cream and 1 teaspoon of sugar if desired. Whisk the cream until soft peaks form. The texture should be soft and fluffy but still pourable. Set aside.
- Warm the Coffee Mugs: Fill two glass coffee mugs with hot water and allow them to sit for 2-3 minutes to warm up. This step helps keep the coffee hot longer. Pour out the water before proceeding.
- Add Sweetener: Add 1 tablespoon of sugar or maple syrup to each warmed mug.
- Prepare the Coffee and Whiskey: Pour hot brewed coffee into the mugs over the sweetener. Stir well to dissolve the sugar completely. Then pour in the Irish whiskey and stir gently to combine.
- Serve: Carefully spoon the whipped cream over the back of a spoon to float it on top of the coffee mixture. Garnish with chocolate shavings for an added touch of flavor and presentation. Serve immediately and enjoy.
Notes
- Use freshly brewed strong coffee for best flavor.
- Chilling the bowl before whipping cream helps achieve better soft peaks.
- Adjust sweetness to taste by using more or less sugar or substituting maple syrup.
- To float the cream properly, always pour it gently over the back of a spoon.
- Chocolate shavings are optional but add a nice visual and taste contrast.
