Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 2.25 cups all-purpose flour
- 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
- 0.25 teaspoons baking soda
- 0.5 teaspoons salt
- 0.5 teaspoons ground nutmeg
- 0.67 cups granulated sugar
Wet Ingredients
- 2 large eggs
- 0.75 cups milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 0.33 cups melted butter
Topping
- 1.25 cups powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it reaches the correct temperature for baking the donuts.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a medium-sized bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground nutmeg. Stir these together and set aside.
- Mix wet ingredients: In a separate large bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter until fully combined and smooth.
- Combine wet and dry: Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to over-mix to preserve the donuts’ fluffy texture.
- Prepare donut pans: Lightly spray your donut pans with a nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Fill pans with batter: Transfer the batter into a gallon-sized plastic bag, then cut a small hole in one corner. Pipe the batter gently into each donut cavity, filling approximately three-quarters full.
- Bake donuts: Place the pans in the preheated oven and bake for 11-13 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick into the donut; it should come out clean.
- Cool donuts: Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for 5-7 minutes before transferring them to a wire cooling rack.
- Coat with powdered sugar: Pour the powdered sugar into a separate gallon-sized plastic bag. Add one warm donut at a time into the bag and shake gently to coat it evenly with powdered sugar. Place the coated donut back on the cooling rack and repeat with remaining donuts.
- Final cooling: Let the powdered sugar coated donuts cool completely before serving to ensure the coating sets well.
Notes
- Do not over-mix the batter; a few lumps are fine and will help keep the donuts tender.
- Ensure the oven is fully preheated before baking for even cooking.
- If you don’t have donut pans, you can use a muffin tin but the shape will vary.
- For a lighter coating, dust powdered sugar with a fine sieve instead of shaking in a bag.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
