Cocktail Ingredients
- 3 medium tomatillos, husked, washed, and chopped
- 1/2 cup cold vodka
- 1/2 serrano chile, seeded
- 1/2 English cucumber, chopped
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro
- Juice of 2 limes
- Few dashes green hot sauce
- Dash Worcestershire sauce
- Tiny pinch of chipotle chili powder
- Simple syrup, to taste
- Lime slices, for rim and garnish
- Coarse sugar, for glass rims
- Kosher salt, to taste (optional)
Instructions
- Blend the Cocktail: Combine the chopped tomatillos, cold vodka, seeded serrano chile, chopped cucumber, chopped cilantro, lime juice, green hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, chipotle chili powder, and simple syrup in a blender. Blend until the mixture is completely smooth and well combined.
- Prepare Glass Rims: Rub a lime slice around the rims of two rocks glasses to moisten them. Then, dip the rims into coarse sugar (mixed with kosher salt if desired) to coat evenly, creating a flavorful and decorative edge for your cocktails.
- Serve Chilled: Divide the blended Verde Mary mixture evenly between the two prepared glasses. Add ice to each glass to keep the cocktail refreshingly cold. Garnish with additional lime slices or a sprig of cilantro if desired, and serve immediately.
Notes
- Adjust the amount of serrano chile and chipotle chili powder to control the spice level to your preference.
- Simple syrup is added to balance the acidity of the tomatillos and lime juice; add gradually and taste as you go.
- For a saltier rim, mix kosher salt with the coarse sugar to taste.
- This cocktail is best served immediately after preparation to maintain freshness and chill.
- Tomatillos give the drink a unique tangy flavor different from the traditional Bloody Mary.
