Chocolate Crinkle Cookies Recipe

  • Author: Harper
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 16 cookies 1x

Description

Chocolate Crinkle Cookies are a double chocolate, fudge-y, brownie-like cookie with a chewy center and crispy edges. These classic holiday treats are coated in powdered sugar for a beautiful crinkled appearance and are perfect for festive occasions or any chocolate craving.

Ingredients

Scale

Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup dark brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet mini chocolate chips

Coating

  • Powdered sugar (for coating dough balls)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with a silicone mat to prevent sticking and promote even baking.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugar. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and dark brown sugar until the mixture is fluffy, which should take about 1-2 minutes using a hand mixer or stand mixer.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients. Add the vanilla extract and room temperature egg to the butter and sugar mixture. Mix just until combined, approximately 30 seconds, ensuring not to overmix.
  4. Combine Dry Ingredients. Add the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt to the wet ingredients. Beat the mixture until all ingredients are fully combined and the dough forms evenly.
  5. Incorporate Chocolate Chips. Stir in the semi-sweet mini chocolate chips evenly throughout the dough.
  6. Scoop Dough Balls. Using a 1.5 oz cookie scoop (about 3 tablespoons), scoop uniform balls of dough.
  7. Coat Dough in Powdered Sugar. Dunk each dough ball into powdered sugar ensuring they are generously coated so they develop the characteristic crackled appearance after baking.
  8. Bake. Place 8 coated dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, allowing enough space for spreading. Bake in the preheated oven for 9–11 minutes until the cookies have spread and the edges are slightly crisp while the center remains chewy.
  9. Cool. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely or serve warm.

Notes

  • These cookies are best enjoyed warm, fresh out of the oven, or slightly reheated in the microwave.
  • Store at room temperature for up to 3 days, in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks, or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Reheat gently in the microwave if desired for that fresh-baked warmth.
