Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 1 cup white granulated sugar (or light brown sugar)
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup milk (vitamin D, whole, 2% or almond)
- ⅓ cup vegetable oil
Add-ins
- 1½ cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet, milk chocolate or dark chocolate)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 1 pound loaf pan well or use alternatives like a silicone loaf pan or line with parchment paper for easy removal.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together sugar, all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt until evenly combined. Set this mixture aside.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl or using a stand mixer, beat the egg, milk, and vegetable oil together until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
- Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures: Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined and moist. Avoid overmixing to keep the bread tender.
- Add Chocolate Chips: Fold in 1¼ cups of the chocolate chips carefully. Reserve ¼ cup to sprinkle on top of the batter once in the pan.
- Fill Pan and Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, filling it about two-thirds full to allow room for rising. Sprinkle the reserved chocolate chips evenly over the top. Place the pan in the center of the oven and bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool and Serve: Once done, remove the bread from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer to a wire rack or plate and slice to serve.
Notes
- You can substitute light brown sugar for white granulated sugar for a richer flavor.
- If you don’t have a 1 pound loaf pan, a standard 8×4 inch loaf pan will work.
- Milk can be substituted with almond milk or any other plant-based milk if desired.
- To add extra flavor, consider adding 1 teaspoon vanilla extract to the wet ingredients.
- Do not overmix the batter to avoid dense bread; stir just until combined.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
