  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

These Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos combine crispy, spicy shrimp with a creamy, tangy sauce and fresh vegetables all wrapped in warm corn tortillas. Perfect for a flavorful and quick meal that balances heat and freshness in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp and Marinade

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Onion powder, to taste
  • Garlic powder, to taste

Coating

  • 3/4 cup corn starch

Sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 Tbsp Thai sweet chili sauce
  • 3 tsp Sriracha (or to taste)

Assembly

  • Small corn tortillas
  • Purple or green cabbage, shredded
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Fresh cilantro leaves

Instructions

  1. Marinate the shrimp: In a bowl, mix buttermilk with salt, black pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Add the shrimp and let them marinate for 15 minutes to tenderize and flavor them.
  2. Coat the shrimp: Remove shrimp from the marinade and dredge them thoroughly in corn starch, ensuring each piece is fully coated for a crispy texture when fried.
  3. Fry the shrimp: Heat oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Fry the coated shrimp in batches, cooking each side for 2 to 3 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
  4. Prepare the bang bang sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, Thai sweet chili sauce, and Sriracha. Mix well until smooth and creamy.
  5. Warm tortillas and assemble tacos: Heat the corn tortillas until warm and pliable. Place a few fried shrimp on each tortilla, then top with shredded cabbage, diced tomatoes, and cilantro. Drizzle generously with the bang bang sauce.

Notes

  • You can adjust the Sriracha quantity to make the sauce milder or spicier.
  • Use fresh shrimp for the best flavor and texture.
  • Double the sauce if you prefer extra drizzling or dipping.
  • For a gluten-free option, confirm that your corn starch and sauces are gluten-free.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the shrimp at their crispiest.
