Ingredients
Scale
Croissants and Fillings
- 4 large croissants, sliced in half
- 8 slices of deli ham (about 200g)
- 8 slices of Swiss cheese or Gruyère (about 120g)
Spread
- 2 tbsp Dijon mustard (optional)
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise (optional)
Finishing
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Prepare Croissants: Slice each croissant in half horizontally. If desired, spread Dijon mustard and mayonnaise on the inside of both halves for added flavor and moisture.
- Assemble Fillings: Place 2 slices of deli ham and 2 slices of Swiss cheese inside each croissant half, layering neatly to ensure even melting and taste. Close the croissants carefully to keep the fillings inside.
- Prepare for Baking: Arrange the filled croissants on the parchment-lined baking sheet with the closed side down. Brush the tops lightly with melted butter to impart a golden, shiny finish.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the croissants are golden brown and the cheese inside is fully melted and gooey.
- Serve: Remove from oven and serve the croissants warm to enjoy their flaky texture and savory melted filling at their best.
Notes
- For a stronger cheese flavor, substitute Swiss cheese with Gruyère or a mix of both.
- You can omit the mustard and mayonnaise for a simpler taste or substitute with your favorite spreads.
- Use freshly baked or day-old croissants for best texture.
- Serve with a side salad or fresh fruit for a complete meal.
- Store any leftovers wrapped in foil and reheat gently in the oven to maintain crispness.
