Description

This American Flag Fruit Pizza is a festive and delicious dessert perfect for patriotic celebrations. It features a buttery sugar cookie crust topped with a creamy, sweetened cream cheese and whipped topping mixture, decorated with fresh blueberries and raspberries arranged to resemble the stars and stripes of the American flag. A little star-shaped cookie adds a charming touch to this colorful and refreshing treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 1 tube Refrigerated Sugar Cookie Dough (16.5 oz)

Filling

  • 8 oz Cream Cheese, softened
  • 2/3 cup Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 8 oz Whipped Topping, thawed

Toppings

  • 12 oz Fresh Raspberries (3 to 4 cups)
  • 1 dry pint Fresh Blueberries (about 2 cups)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the cookie crust.
  2. Slice cookie dough: Open the tube of refrigerated sugar cookie dough and slice it into 1/4 inch thick pieces.
  3. Form crust: Place the cookie dough slices onto a lightly greased 12-inch pizza pan. Press them together evenly to form a uniform pizza-shaped crust. Optionally, reserve one slice of dough separately and use a star-shaped cookie cutter to cut a star for decoration later.
  4. Bake crust: Bake the assembled cookie crust in the oven for 11-12 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove and allow it to cool completely while washing and drying the fresh berries.
  5. Prepare filling: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. Beat in half of the whipped topping, then gently fold in the remaining whipped topping for a light and fluffy texture.
  6. Spread filling: Scoop slightly less than half of the cream cheese mixture onto the cooled cookie crust and spread it evenly all the way to the edges.
  7. Create blue section: Use blueberries to outline the edge of the pizza to form the blue portion of the flag. Place the star cookie on top of the blueberry section for an authentic star look.
  8. Add red stripes: Use fresh raspberries to create seven red stripes across the remaining exposed crust area, mimicking the stripes on the American flag.
  9. Pipe white stripes: Use the remaining cream cheese mixture to pipe white stripes between the raspberry stripes, completing the flag pattern.
  10. Chill and serve: Refrigerate the assembled fruit pizza until ready to serve, allowing the flavors to meld and the filling to set.

Notes

  • Make sure the cookie crust is completely cooled before spreading the cream cheese filling to prevent melting.
  • The star-shaped cookie is optional but adds a nice decorative touch to the flag design.
  • You can use fresh or frozen berries; if frozen, thaw completely and pat dry to avoid excess moisture.
  • This dessert can be prepared a few hours ahead and stored in the refrigerator.
  • For a lower sugar option, adjust the sugar quantity or use a sugar substitute suitable for baking.
