Ingredients

Scale

Base Ingredients

  • 34 tablespoons cocoa powder (fair-trade recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons collagen powder (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 cups organic unsweetened almond milk (or another preferred milk)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Himalayan salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 34 tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice (from about 1 large orange)

Instructions

  1. Combine Cocoa and Collagen: In a small saucepan, whisk together the cocoa powder and collagen powder until well blended.
  2. Melt Honey and Coconut Oil: Turn the heat on to low and add the honey and coconut oil, stirring continuously until the mixture is melted and creamy.
  3. Add Almond Milk: Slowly whisk in the organic almond milk and gently heat the mixture through without boiling.
  4. Finish with Flavorings: Turn off the heat and stir in the Himalayan salt, vanilla extract, almond extract, and freshly squeezed orange juice.
  5. Serve: Enjoy the hot cocoa plain or topped with coconut whipped cream or your favorite garnishes.

Notes

  • The collagen powder is optional but adds protein and nutrients.
  • Adding honey at the end preserves its beneficial properties.
  • Freshly squeezed orange juice is preferred for better flavor and health benefits.
  • This recipe makes about 2 servings (mugfuls).
  • For variations, substitute almond milk with homemade coconut milk or other plant-based milks.
