Ingredients
Scale
Deviled Egg Filling
- 6 hard boiled eggs (cooked for 10 minutes, peeled and cut in half)
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped pickles or pickle relish
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- Sea salt and black pepper, to taste
Breading and Coating
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 raw eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 1/2 cup butter crackers, blended into crumbs
- Oil spray or melted butter, for brushing
- Dill (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- Make the yolk filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked egg yolks, mayonnaise, chopped pickles, Dijon mustard, sea salt, and pepper. Mash thoroughly with a fork until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Prepare the breading stations: Set up three dishes in this order: one with the flour, the second with the beaten raw eggs, and the third with a mixture of bread crumbs and crushed butter cracker crumbs combined evenly.
- Bread the egg whites: Take one egg white at a time and carefully coat it first with flour, then dip into the beaten eggs, and finally coat evenly with the breadcrumb and cracker crumb mixture. Repeat for all egg whites.
- Air fry the coated egg whites: Arrange the breaded egg whites in the air fryer basket or dish. Lightly spray or brush them with oil or melted butter to promote browning. Air fry at 390°F (200°C) for 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for another 4-5 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Assemble deviled eggs: Remove the air-fried egg whites from the air fryer and spoon the prepared yolk filling into each half. Garnish with fresh dill or other herbs of your choice.
- Serve and enjoy: Serve immediately while the crispy coating is still warm and crunchy for the best texture and flavor experience.
Notes
- Make sure eggs are fully cooled before peeling to prevent tears and ensure clean halves.
- For a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour and breadcrumbs with gluten-free alternatives.
- Adjust seasoning in the yolk filling to your taste preference, adding more mustard or relish for extra tang.
- Use an oil spray with high smoke point like avocado or canola oil for best browning results in the air fryer.
- If air fryer space is limited, cook in batches to maintain crispiness without overcrowding.
- Dill garnish is optional but adds a fresh, aromatic finish to the deviled eggs.
